Take a trip across the ditch to ride in the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge in New Zealand on 28 November.

NZ provides endless cycling opportunities and kiwis love to get on their bikes. The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge is New Zealand’s premier and largest cycling event where around 8,000 riders from across New Zealand and over 20 countries across the globe take part each year. The clear blue waters of Lake Taupo provide an idyllic setting for the cyclists.

However, looks can be deceiving as Taupo is actually a volcano without a top! At Craters of the Moon you can witness the power of the earth’s core up close – peer into cauldrons of boiling mud, hear the hissing and see the clouds of steam. All this volcanic activity also offers the opportunity to relax and unwind in one of Taupo’s many thermal and geo-thermally heated hot pools. Taupo is a nature-lover’s delight with highlights including Huka Falls, where over 200,000 litres of water thunder over the cliff face every second. It is also a great base for a visit to Tongariro National Park to take on one of New Zealand’s best one day walks, the Tongariro Crossing.

The Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge event is recognised on a world-wide stage, with its Mountain Bike categories taking place on trails awarded Silver Ride Centre status by the International Mountain Bike Association (the only one in the Southern Hemisphere). It’s famous for its 160km Bike Barn Solo, the one lap circumnavigation of Lake Taupo, however this is just one of 18 event categories on offer, with both Road and Mountain Bike options for individuals and teams, catering to all levels of cycling and fitness abilities.

Come and Experience New Zealand’s Stunning Lake Taupo. Online entries are now open for the Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge and you’ll find everything you need to know about this legendary ride at www.cyclechallenge.com  .
