Adelaide to Zero Carbon Challenge – $250,000 of funding available


Have an idea to make Adelaide carbon neutral? Submit your idea to get access to $250,000 in funding. 

The State Government and Adelaide City Council have a vision for a carbon neutral Adelaide. As a starting point in achieving this ambitious goal, the Adelaide to Zero Carbon Challenge has been launched to kick start the sorts of innovative thinking that will be required for success.

Bike SA is fortunate to be a strategic partner in this process, along with the likes of SA Power Networks, Climate Knowledge Innovation Community Australia, UniSA Centre for Business Growth and the Green Building Council of Australia. 

Earlier this week the Premier announced South Australia’s Low Carbon Entrepreneur Prize – a sort of ‘ideation kick starter’. It offers a prize pool of AUD$250,000 for entrepreneurs to seed great ideas and turn them into viable commercial opportunities that will help Adelaide become the world’s first carbon neutral city.

The Prize will help entrepreneurs take their ideas to the next level, to create prototypes and help get these ideas to market. It’s all part of a broad vision to position Adelaide as the world’s leading city in low carbon economies, to enhance new-economy jobs and industries and export these products and services to the world.  

There are four key areas for ideas: Energy, Transport, Waste and Liveability.

As Bike SA is all about getting more bums on bikes, we know that cycling will play a key role in reducing transport emissions. The opportunities to make a significant shift in mode share away from motor vehicles to more active forms of transport (walking and cycling) are immense. 

So if you have a ripper of an idea on how to encourage more people to ride their bikes for transport, you could grab a share of the $250K prize.

how about a ‘once monthly’ or regular trial of the CFD ‘car free day’
in the CBD….NOTE this was used to introduce cycling to more people in Holland in the 1950’s and 60’s and then their cycle interaction was helped interwoven into the fabric of the community… interestingly shop owners first thought the day would be a disaster for trade but history shows it turned around some flagging enterprises…

more cycle lockups and or infrastructure would then pop up as a response to the families then confident to ride

also trial car free lane on sundays for ANZaC highway and or port road…
